2. Kane Can’t Talk

Kane's backstory has been chopped and changed so much that you just kinda have to roll with it or you'll go daft. Originally, the character debuted in late-1997 seeking revenge on The Undertaker for killing their parents in a fire which also left him badly burned/scarred (remember that bit).

The flames had torched Kane's voice box too, so he couldn't speak. Except he could, but only once WWE realised that the mute menace in the mask had run its course and was limiting the gimmick's potential. Big Glenn Jacobs started cutting promos, aided by a voice box, in June 1998.

That fell by the wayside a few years later.

Kane started talking with ease, and even worked some guest commentary here or there in 2001. He'd started delivering lines (sans voice box) every week, so any mention of singed vocal cords was removed from the character's wonky history several years later.
