10 Times WWE Ripped Up The Script After WrestleMania
4. Kurt Angle Gets Drafted To ECW
The early to mid-2000s was the highlight of Kurt Angle's entire WWE career, as whatever he touched turned into gold at the time. He added one more gem to his crown when he won the World Heavyweight Championship by winning a 20-man battle royal in 2006.
He had stellar defenses against the likes of Mark Henry and The Undertaker before losing the title to Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 22 in a triple-threat match that included Randy Orton. However, WWE raised some eyebrows when they drafted Angle to ECW after the event. It happened as a result of Angle having a fallout with Vince McMahon after he started relying too much on painkillers to cope with various injuries.
Following a meeting at the WWE Headquarters over his addiction and erratic behavior, Angle reportedly asked for a release, but the company wanted to keep him on the roster after some time in rehab. But Angle made things worse when he sent multiple text messages to Vince McMahon threatening to beat him up while he was not in his senses.
It led to an intense backstage confrontation, following which Angle pleaded with McMahon to grant him an early release, which he eventually received in August 2006.
