Prior to WCW folding in 2001, Scott Steiner was on a roll as a ruthless heel that had transformed his persona from a tag team wrestler out of Michigan University into a foul-mouthed, womanizing, jacked-up freak known as Big Poppa Pump.

When Scott returned to WWE in late 2002, WWE's first misstep was casting Freakzilla in the role of a babyface.

To make matters worse, Steiner was less than 100% physically, a fact that company officials were made completely aware of. Scott had been suffering from drop foot syndrome which would certainly limit his in-ring abilities. Instead of protecting Steiner with short matches against a fully healthy and younger worker, Steiner's first major match was 18 minutes long against Triple H whom had just suffered a partially torn quad. This made their Royal Rumble 2003 match an absolute train wreck.

In the worst match of 2003, Steiner was gassed very early on, botching numerous moves while relying almost exclusively on suplexes for his offense. The match was so bad that the feud, planned to extend through WrestleMania XIX, was cut short and ended the next month at No Way Out.

In WWE, Steiner would never recover, dropping down to the mid-card for storylines involving Stacy Keibler and Test before ultimately getting released in 2004.
