Prior to his recent return to WWE, Goldberg was often outspoken about his unhappiness with WWE during his first run in 2003. Goldberg opted not to re-sign with WWE beyond his WrestleMania XX match against Brock Lesnar. The Madison Square Garden crowd's negative reactions to both superstars helped turn Lesnar/Goldberg I into one of the most infamous matches of all-time.

Twelve years later, Goldberg is back in WWE preparing for a rematch against Brock at Survivor Series 2016.

Despite Brock's popularity, Goldberg's first Raw appearance in 12 years was met with a massive favorable reaction, successfully confirming his role as the babyface. That is, until a week later when WWE booked Lesnar to respond in his hometown of Minneapolis.

WWE knew Brock would get cheered in Minnesota, but instead of holding off his response to Goldberg for another week, WWE forged ahead. The entire segment was predicated around the live crowd's persistent chants of "GOLD-BERG!" but there was one major problem: the Minnesota faithful were chanting "Suplex City" instead. This could not have been a surprise to WWE powers that be.

Clearly, there's more to come in this feud and while fan support may swing back towards Goldberg before Survivor Series, this is just another example of how WWE prefers to book former WCW talent in an uphill struggle.
