Batista could do no right in 2014.

As soon he returned to enter the Royal Rumble that year, fans started to get nervous that Daniel Bryan wasn't going to WrestleMania.

They were right... for a while. With The Animal stamping his ticket to the Granddaddy of Them All, arenas across America started to make their feelings clear.

Enter the era of Bootista.

The story of how the American Dragon ended up in the main event of 'Mania XXX has been told countless times, so let's skip to the Raw the next night when Batista rejoined Triple H and Randy Orton in Evolution. The trio took on The Shield at Extreme Rules in a fun matches, but that's not what people remember.

Quite simply put, it's the fact that Batista came out dressed all blue for the rematch at Payback.

Bootista was over, Bluetista was here.

Fans chanted at The Animal all the way through the match, as social media filled with memes of everything from Drax The Destroyer painted bright blue, to a suited Batista playing the blues. 2014 was a fun time for creators, but the victim didn't see the funny side for quite a while.

After calling out former NXT announcer Alex Del Barrio on Twitter in 2019 for enjoying the Bluetista chants, Batista seemed to come to terms with the entire ordeal a year later, tweeting: "And I got sh*t for wearing blue!" By this point, give me what I want had became Dave's new meme anyway, so it was time for him to move on.

When I'm not trying my hardest to visit all 50 U.S. states, I'm listening to music from the 80s, watching TV from the 90s, and reminiscing about growing up in the 00s. I'm currently living in Melbourne, Australia so WWE premium live events are on Sunday afternoons for me; the absolute dream.
