10 Times WWE Stars Were Struck By The Intercontinental Title Curse

2. Owen Hart (1999)

The tragic events which unfolded at the Over The Edge 1999 Pay-Per-View have become legend. Sadly, Owen Hart lost his life whilst the event was live on air, falling from the rafters and landing inside the ring. On his way to hospital, the youngest son of Stu and Helen Hart passed away, but he has never been forgotten since. It's a testament to how cherished Owen was that fans desperately wish to see him entered into the WWE Hall Of Fame. There are obstacles stopping that from happening, mainly his widow, Martha, but there are hopes it'll occur sometime in the near future. At Over The Edge, Owen was cast as The Blue Blazer, and was set to challenge The Godfather for the Intercontinental Title. Hart was booked to win the belt under the hood, but it'd unfortunately never happen. Due to the horrific accident on the PPV, Jeff Jarrett bagged the strap and paid tribute to his friend soon after on an episode of Raw. The Blue Blazer was a character played mainly for laughs, but there were tears in the eyes of everyone by the conclusion of Over The Edge.
