8. Beating The Nexus

What Happened: Renegade rookie gang the Nexus ran roughshod over everyone in sight for nearly two months in 2010. Their upstart temerity threatened the status quo in WWE, and it was no accident that they concentrated fire on poster boy John Cena.

By SummerSlam, Cena had assembled ' Team WWE' to take down Nexus and ended the match by beating its leader Wade Barrett without breaking sweat.

Why It Was Stupid: What was this supposed to achieve other than by making a potentially-hot new group look like a bunch of overwhelmed losers? Barrett's grandiose claims of taking over were made to look foolish at SummerSlam, and his boys were instantly neutered by the result.

It hardly helped that a past-his-prime Bret Hart was one of the WWE-sters looking to vanquish Nexus and stop them from seizing control. If Barrett and company couldn't beat him, then they couldn't beat anybody. WWE's attempted rescue mission (Cena being forced to join Nexus briefly) later in the year was too little, too late.
