9. CM Punk
Ah yes, that time CM Punk beat the living day lights out of an innocent fan... What were WWE thinking? Punk - playing a heel at the time - had just cut a scathing promo where he badmouthed the WWE Universe before he took off into them. You can see that plenty of fans have a go at touching the Straight Edge Superstar before the incident occurs. Punk is openly agitated and it only takes one small blow to the back of the head to send him over the edge. The WWE Champion strikes out and catches the fan in sunglasses with a couple of hefty blows, knocking him to the floor. However, as you'll see if you look closely, the guy Punk connects with is innocent. A smaller guy, who shows the current UFC trainee the middle finger, is the guilty party. He got off very lucky. WWE released the following official statement in the aftermath of the event:
During Monday nights Raw televised event, WWE Superstar CM Punk exited the ring and into the stands as part of the show. Unfortunately, WWE security was not in the appropriate place at the time. Given CM Punks persona as a bad guy, fans were naturally heckling him, but unfortunately a few fans began shoving him, and one struck him in the kidney and on the back. WWE regrets that proper security measures were not in place, and CM Punk apologises for reacting in the heat of the moment. Other than this isolated incident, WWE always provides proper security to ensure the safety of our fans and our performers.
While Punk said:
I think the whole situation sucks, its an unfortunate and isolated incident. I was up in the stands, surrounded. Somebody said, lets push him down the stairs,"Punk explained. I got hit in the ribs three times. I was getting shoved and I was getting punchedThen I started getting tagged in the back of the head. Unfortunately, I lashed out in the heat of the moment and I apologise. Im really just glad nobody was hurt." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sAWt_LtiS0
