10 Times WWE Survivor Series Decisions Backfired
2. Authority's Christmas Vacation (2014)
We get it: forever is a joke in wrestling. Retirements don't last, stipulations mean jack, and continuity is highly negotiable. That's part of a major problem, as fans have been conditioned to not take high stakes seriously, and thus would-be marquee match-ups have less appeal.
Therefore, when you get a transcendent moment like Sting arriving to save WWE's babyfaces by wiping out The Authority at Survivor Series, it's amazing when fans buy into it. Sting's debut (and Dolph Ziggler's dramatic victory) made fans a few shades less jaded on the basis of the amazing execution by everyone involved. Six weeks later, The Authority was back, rendering the entire historical occurrence moot. And WWE continues to wonder why fans don't take their grandiose plans all that seriously.
