8. The Undertaker (vs. Hulk Hogan) - This Tuesday In Texas 1991
Mere days after Taker had won his very first WWE title from Hulk Hogan at Survivor Series, becoming the youngest champion in history at the time, Undertaker defended the belt against Hogan in a rematch at a strange PPV with the rather catchy moniker, 'This Tuesday In Texas'. Mean Gene did his best to make it sound spicy, but everyone knew the PPV had been thrown together. You have to remember how strongly the Undertaker was booked back then. No-selling and sitting bolt upright every single time he was knocked down. I remember, as a little Hulkamaniac, wondering whether anyone could beat this creepy zombie dude. Even the 'Immortal' Hulk Hogan. This, ladies and gentlemen, was a helluva big deal. If WWE really wanted to strap the jet pack to the Undertaker, they would never have a better chance. But this was never the plan. You have to remember, also, the presence of the Nature Boy, Ric Flair, who had interfered in the match at Survivor Series just days prior, and was all set to get involved again. Undertaker, at this point, was merely a spoke on the wheel. The real beef was between Hogan and Flair, and the real issue was WWE dithering on when to pull the trigger on a match between those two. Of course, they never did - we had to wait until both men had landed in WCW for that - and the title was vacated after Hogan, a face, remember, won it back by throwing ash from Taker's urn into the Deadman's eyes and then rolling him up for the three count. Flair ended up winning the Royal Rumble and the vacant title. Undertaker's recovery from that night is the stuff of legend, of course. Even if he did have to wrestle Giant Gonzalez along the way.
As a long-time WWE fan, I have always enjoyed watching men pretend to beat each other up while wearing spandex. Extra points for facepaint, none for tassels.
I love all things sci-fi. If there's a 'Star' somewhere in the title, I'll probably dig it.
I'm a huge football fan too. For my sins, I support Manchester United.
