2. Austin's Deal With The Devil Ends An All-Timer On A Sour Note (WrestleMania X-Seven)
On the subject of which, despite ranking as quite possibly the greatest Show of Shows of all time, the way WrestleMania X-Seven came to a close still has fans scratching their heads to this day.
With "Stone Cold" Steve Austin taking on The Rock in his home state of Texas, The Texas Rattlesnake could've punched a baby and given the American flag the finger, he still wasn't getting booed out of the Astrodome.
But that still couldn't stop WWE from stupidly insisting on turning The Bionic Redneck heel during one of the hottest main events in company history. Not even the sight of Austin sharing a beer with his mortal enemy and despicable boss Vince, once again providing a needlessly McMahon-heavy 'Mania closing visual, could keep those in attendance from going nuts for their new champ.
As Austin himself has admitted in the years since this botched closing stretch, calling the audible and stunning Vince during the main event war would've likely been the wiser call. And it would've probably killed the doomed Austin heel experiment there and then, too.
