10 Times WWE Totally Wasted Potential

6. Ultimo Dragon

WWE

Ultimo Dragon is wrestling royalty in Japan, but his career Stateside - in the WWE at least - never quite managed to take off.

You can perhaps put this down to the fact that he was too similar to Rey Mysterio in terms of both look - both of them wearing masks - and style inside the ring. The Ultimate Underdog had already filled the role of Vince McMahon's favourite high-flyer, leaving Dragon to play second-fiddle, alongside Billy Kidman and Tajiri.

In sidelining him, WWE sent out a clear signal that it had no real interest in recapturing the magic of the WCW cruiserweight division. Instead of a dream WrestleMania XX singles match between Dragon and Mysterio, we got a multi-man invitational, won by the less adventurous Chavo Guerrero.

Ironically, the Japanese star is exactly the kind of figure the ailing 205 Live ranks desperately needs if it is to be rescued from its current slump - and, honestly, he could probably still fill that role at the age of 50.
