10 Times WWE Treated Its Audience Like Children

2. Gassy Yucks

In early 2012, Natalya suffered from flatulence.

She was sometimes embarrassed by this involuntary phenomenon of Vince McMahon's phenomenally childish sense of humour, sometimes not. She enthusiastically "let rip!", in the words of Anthropomorphic Parrot Michael Cole, before a match with Eve Torres. She once broke wind with an opponent trapped in the Sharpshooter, distracting the ref; yes, the condition had a disastrous effect on her career onscreen and off. The stench was once so bad that it knocked Hornswoggle unconscious. Reportedly, McMahon's sides had to be surgically stitched back together after that.

"Fart kills midget."

How did this company get as big as it did?

The grand, grim irony of WWE is that it is unquestionably the biggest wrestling organisation to have ever existed - and it plays, all too often, to an audience of one. That is an embellished insight. Lots of fans took, say, the dominance of SuperCena at face value, and literally bought into it at the merch table. In the case of Gassy Natalya, it is a numerical fact. She broke wind because Vince thought it was hysterical.

That. Was. It.
