10 Times WWE Tried (And Failed) To Swerve The Fans

9. Once In A Lifetime

With retrospect, the lengths WWE went to try and convince us that The Rock and John Cena were only going to fight each other once look pretty incredible. They even put it on the poster, in big letters: ONCE IN A LIFETIME.

Yet, how many of us actually believed them? Virtually all of the biggest matches in wrestling history have gone down at least twice, and in this particular case it was clear that both men were young enough to revisit their rivalry at a later date.

Perhaps some were taken in by the idea that this was the only chance to see them go at it before WrestleMania XXVIII, but after it? Only someone who was previously unacquainted with WWE could have believed they were going to let the feud die with Cena trailing 1-0.

Sure enough, they tangled with each other again just a year later, after The Rock swooped in at the Royal Rumble to liberate CM Punk of the world title on the same night that Cena won the 30-man free-for-all. Everyone, and we mean everyone, had this down in their pre-show predictions.
