10 Times WWE Tried To Recapture The Magic (And Failed)
4. The New Nexus (Not That New Nexus)
Heading to Ryback's WWE origin story, and I'll get this out there right now: the debut and initial run of The Nexus was lightning in a bottle. Before they were fed to John Cena they tore up the company with a genuine chip on their shoulder, and it was glorious. As we all know, the story didn't end the way the fans, The Nexus, Chris Jericho or Edge had hoped it would.
It seems that WWE hasn't learned a thing from that experience a decade ago. Once again, they have created a faction to come in as unsigned outsiders, illegitimate parasites, and then neutered their own feral beast and turned them into a laughing stock. The Nexus came straight in at the top with a stunning ringside wrecking job and beatdown of John Cena and CM Punk. So far Retribution have mainly been jumping in on other people's feuds.
This is not a knock on the members of Retribution. However, even if WWE rescue them from the dumpster fire that the creative team lit themselves, that initial impact has been lost forever. While The Nexus started with an explosion before going out with a whimper, Retribution has been thrown overboard before even leaving port.
