10 Times WWE Tried To Repeat History With The Undertaker

3. A Giant Task

The Undertaker's '93 feud with Giant Gonzalez has gone down in history for producing one of 'The Phenom's most lacklustre WrestleMania matches. It wasn't well-received at the time nor was it well-remembered years later, so it's hard to know what WWE were thinking when they tried to recreate it 13 years down the line in 2006.

But recreate it they did as 'Taker's program with the Great Khali played out in identical fashion to how the Gonzalez feud did. Yes, just as Harvey Wippleman had struggled to take 'The Deadman' down with Kamala months before the Giant's introduction, Daivari was unable to stop 'The Phenom' with Mark Henry - as both monsters fell to the 'Taker in Casket Matches. And thus, both evil managers delivered bigger monsters to catch 'The Deadman' off-guard.

Like Gonzalez, Khali was limited in the ring but WWE booked him well, having him demolish the legend in the early-going of the feud, before - again, like he did in 1993 - a renewed 'Taker returned and destroyed his giant foe in the summer.

The Undertaker was a very different superstar in 2006 - one that had just pulled off sensational matches with talents like Randy Orton and Kurt Angle - so to pair him with another giant was a regression he didn't need. That said, WWE booked the feud well (mostly) and the pair's Last Man Standing match was an excellent way to finish it.
