10 Times WWE Tried To Repeat History With The Undertaker

2. Making Things Right In The Main Event Of 'Mania

Perhaps the most underrated instance of repeating history WWE has ever storylined, what separates this one from the rest on this list is that the creative team repeated past events by completely inverting them in order to give the fans what they wanted.

The Undertaker's return to the title picture in 2007 through his Royal Rumble victory was met with widespread acclaim but the decision to hand his World Title main event slot at WrestleMania 23 to John Cena and Shawn Michaels' WWE Championship match instead was heavily criticised because fans felt WWE's obsession with having 'SuperCena' in the closing match shouldn't have taken the main event spot from the Royal Rumble winner. And when 'Taker and Batista stole the damn show midway through it, the creative team was left with egg on their faces.

Proving that they learned their lesson the following year, they had 'Taker earn another title shot outside of the Rumble and had him go on to main event WrestleMania XXIV against Edge in another critically-acclaimed match, while Cena ended up following 'Taker's path from the previous year by winning the Royal Rumble (from the No. 30 spot too) but having his 'main event' title match pushed into the card.

A refreshing spin on WWE's intent to rehash The Undertaker's previous storylines, it allowed 'The Deadman' to get that main event match he earned the year prior.
