With NJPW about to have its spate of Inokiism, which would turn their product borderline unwatchable, ECW biting the dust leaving a lot of competent wrestlers unemployed, and WCW finally waving the white flag on their way into their luxury box at the Astrodome, wrestling fans didn't have that many alternatives to turn to.

That said, they didn't need any.

WWF had all that any fan could want. Christ Benoit and Kurt Angle locked up in a showcase match for what mat-wrestling is all about. The three best tag teams of all time united for a destruction derby left wood and aluminum spilled all over the Astrodome. Raven, The Big Show and Kane gave a dangerously entertaining hardcore match that almost cut power to the whole show. The ref might have slept through Undertaker and Triple H's bout, but everyone else felt a jolt of energy when they took their scrap into the stands of the Astrodome. When the worst match on the card is Eddie Guerrero carrying Test to the best match he's ever had, that's saying something.

WWF kept the standard up all the way into their final match, leading into it with their best video package ever, and putting a triumphant end to the Attitude Era by having its two biggest stars go at it in an all-out no disqualification slugfest. Fans were welcome to look for some company to do it better, because they'd never find one.
