10 Times WWE And WCW Screwed Over Their World Champions

10. The Miz's Weak Opponents

A champion is reflected by the kind of opponents he faces in his title defenses - in the Miz's case he was given a variety of weak, fragile opponents which made it abundantly clear that he shouldn't be champion. After defeating Randy Orton, The Miz was thrown into an ongoing feud with Jerry Lawler, a 60-year-old man who is mostly a commentator at this point. It seemed interesting at the time, but in retrospect it was a moronic idea, particularly when The Miz relied on assistance from Alex Riley just to win the match. Alex Riley was also a major crutch to The Miz, as almost every big WWE Championship match finish had The Miz relying on interference to win, be it Riley, CM Punk or The Rock, at different points. People always cite The Miz's title reign as a huge flop, but it's worth questioning if he ever really had a chance given the awful, weak nature he was built up in, from the very beginning.
