10 Times WWE And WCW Screwed Over Their World Champions
6. RVD Losing Both World Championships
WWE's stance on drugs is taken very seriously these days, which is understandable given all the bad publicity wrestling as an industry has suffered due to the infamous nature of wrestling's involvement with steroids and other illegal substances. In Rob Van Dam's first stint with the WWE, he made one crucial mistake that ruined his entire success in the company, one he'd arguably worked years for. In May, 2006, RVD would cash in his Money in the Bank contract to face John Cena at One Night Stand, thus defeating him with assistance from Edge, gaining the WWE Championship. Paul Heyman then awarded Mr.Monday Night the revived ECW World Heavyweight Championship, as the franchise had just been reborn. However, A little over a month later, Van Dam would be arrested for being in possession of drugs. As punishment, RVD would lose to the WWE title to Edge on Raw, and the ECW Title to Big Show the very next nigh. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N-jWX2aaxtw There's no doubt he deserved the punishment, a company as big as World Wrestling Entertainment is can't be seen as taking a loose stance on narcotics. However, there's no doubt RVD was screwed as a champion just from sheer fulfillment of the criteria, he'd lost two world titles in no time at all, and went from the king of the mount to the very back of the pack.
