10 Times WWE Were Forced Into A Money Match
9. Randy Orton Vs. Triple H... Twice! (No Mercy, 2007)
In 2007, John Cena had just started to really hit his stride as WWE's most divisive figure.
After knocking off Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 23 and various other top stars on Raw in the aftermath, the polarising figure eventually found himself in a feud with the recently christened 'Viper' of WWE, Randy Orton.
The pair battled for the WWE title at SummerSlam and Unforgiven, with Orton unsuccessful in his pursuit of the gold on both occasions.
A third match - under Last Man Standing stipulations - was then scheduled between the two, but Super-Cena unfortunately suffered a legitimate injury on an episode of Raw and was therefore pulled from their impending No Mercy clash.
With Cena out of commission, Orton was controversially awarded the belt on the PPV. However, Triple H didn't take too kindly to him being gifted the gold and demanded a title match there and then.
He'd win the belt from Orton, defend it against Umaga and finally lose the WWE Championship back to 'The Legend Killer' in a Last Man Standing match - which was originally promised - in the main event.
WWE were forced to go into sporadic big match booking overload in the wake of Cena's injury and this series of unannounced WWE title matches helped forge one of the oddest PPVs in WWE history.
