When WWE finally announced that we would be getting a women's Money in the Bank ladder match in 2017, fans were obviously eager to see exactly what degree of carnage SmackDown Live's women could bring to the showcase bout.

They didn't disappoint... for the most part.

The match itself was of a decent standard and Becky Lynch, Charlotte Flair, Natalya, Tamina and Carmella all played their part in putting their bodies on the line for the chance to become the first Ms. Money in the Bank.

Then James Ellsworth knocked Lynch off a ladder in the closing stages, before unhooking the briefcase for a Carmella win and all hell broke loose... on social media.

Fans were having none of it and felt betrayed by the fact that WWE had chosen to taint this landmark moment with the image of a man obtaining the briefcase in the first ever women's iteration of the bout.

Quickly scrambling to salvage this controversial decision, WWE booked a massive Money in the Bank ladder rematch on the following week's SmackDown Live.

The talented performers seriously improved on their prior showing in the second match and this entertaining follow-up left the fans in attendance in awe of the PPV level action they were witnessing.

Carmella would definitively win the match on the second time of asking and WWE were taught another lesson in what not to do when booking such a historic match-up.
