10 Times WWE Were Obsessed With Strange Things

6. Surprise Roll-Ups

For what WWE is unable to provide in continuity, it more than makes up for in repetition. Whether for better or worse, whenever Vince McMahon and his cohorts fancy a particular idea, it's beaten to a bloody puddle of death. The same is true for match finishes.

Take a look during any era of WWE programming, and you'll likely find several matches concluded in much the same way, whether that's the particular approach to a clean finish or the outlandish shenanigans during the closing moment. At the moment, WWE seems to have a strong tie to the surprise roll-up victory.

In theory, the concept of a shock pinning combination is a bit more realistic than the predictable signature move sequence. In amateur wrestling, competitors don't always score the pinfall in the most dramatic of ways.

Furthermore, whenever WWE books itself in a corner (several times a night, that is), it tends to lean on some variation of a leverage pin, inside cradle, etc. One can only imagine 'Big Mac' is somewhere on a headset demanding "surprise roll-up" like an old-school wrestling coach yelling, "shoot the half and make a 'T!'" It's hard to tell if the pinning manoeuvre is born out of laziness or some mad senior's strange quirk.

One thing that is for sure is that many fans aren't quite as enamored with it as he is.
