10 Times WWE Were Right Not To Give The Fans What They Wanted
6. Daniel Bryan Winning The Royal Rumble
A few of you are probably already scoffing at the notion of there ever being a better choice than Daniel Bryan to win the 2015 Royal Rumble match. Yet, you have to accept that the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion definitely wasn't in a position to be carrying the company forward as their leading babyface at that time.
In the year leading up to that Rumble, Bryan had missed multiple months of action due to a much needed neck surgery and many doctors had even advised against Bryan's eventual wrestling return in January of 2015.
Yet, Bryan listened to his heart and would continue his feud with Kane and The Authority.
WWE however - still unsure as to whether Bryan was officially back to his fully-fit self - decided against forcing him back into the main event spotlight and instead opted for their new pet-project, Roman Reigns, to win the controversial Rumble.
Fans voiced their disapproval on the night and the lasting effects on Reigns' relationship with the WWE Universe would take years to repair, yet WWE had their performer's best interests in mind and felt it would be too great a risk to throw Bryan at The Beast Incarnate, Brock Lesnar, so soon after returning from a career-threatening injury.
Bryan would eventually win the Intercontinental title in an equally ill-advised chaotic ladder match at WrestleMania 31 and would be forced onto the shelf a few weeks later due to yet another concussion-related injury - which would eventually lead to a forced retirement for the leader of the 'YES!' movement.
