10 Times WWE Were Right Not To Give The Fans What They Wanted
7. Anyone But Baron Corbin Winning King Of The Ring
Let's get this out of the way early.
Baron Corbin is NOT a bad wrestler. He may not be the most elaborate or ground-breaking star in the company, but - similarly to his current feuding partner Roman Reigns - he is currently doing the best he can with the questionable material he is frequently given.
He's actually improved substantially in the last year or so, yet fans still feel the need to constantly lambast him for his in-ring and promo ability.
So, when 2019's iteration of The King of the Ring tournament was announced and Corbin was included as one of the contestants eyeing up the iconic crown and scepter - as expected - WWE fans instantly recoiled at the idea of him being crowned the victor.
Yet, history taught us that a heel-King often clicks better than a squeaky clean babyface monarch and was there a better piece of sh*t bad guy available in the field than Corbin?
Samoa Joe? Perhaps. Drew McIntyre? An option. But, these two stars were still celebrated by a section of the live-crowd, meaning that the only clear option for widespread nuclear heat was that of the former Constable.
The decision led to a brilliant Corbin/The Rock/Becky Lynch exchange on the debut episode of SmackDown on Fox and a series of excellent matches with Shorty... Chad Gable (!) so the unpopular decision looks to have successfully propped Corbin up as the top heel on the blue brand.
