10 Times WWE Were Right Not To Give The Fans What They Wanted
3. The Fiend Vs. The Demon At SummerSlam
In 2019, it's quite clear to all who indulge in WWE's weekly programming that Bray Wyatt's 'The Fiend' is the most popular act in the company.
His creepy, merciless alter-ego made its presence known in a July episode of Monday Night Raw when 'The Fiend' attacked Finn Bálor with a Sister Abigail, before following that up with a Mandible Claw on Mick Foley the following week.
Bálor had a serious task on his hands and many fans were left entertaining the limitless creative potential possible for two of WWE's most fantastical characters to come to blows at the Biggest Party of the Summer.
'The Demon' had started to appear more frequently in recent months, with WrestleMania and Super Showdown appearances fresh in the WWE Universe's minds. Yet, when it came to the two's eventual collision at SummerSlam, Bálor strutted down to the ring in his 'human' form and his fate was sealed shortly after with a quick mauling at the hands of 'The Fiend'.
Though fans were deprived of a dream 'Demon' vs. 'Fiend' match at the event, the rub Wyatt received from killing off Bálor and the door being opened for Irishman to be written off TV for a few months to rejuvenate, benefited everyone involved.
Bálor is now reborn on NXT television and Wyatt is enjoying a Universal title run on SmackDown, so that much anticipated 'Monster-Mash' will have to wait a little while longer to become a reality.
