9. The Miz As The Rock

It’s hard enough to break into the main event scene in WWE. Once you’re there, you shouldn’t have to cling to relevance in your own WWE Title reign and WrestleMania main event.

That was the fate that befell The Miz in 2011, when his programme with John Cena became all about setting up the following year’s “Once in a Lifetime” showdown between Cena and The Rock.

Miz’s best shot at grabbing Cena’s attention was by invoking ‘The Great One’ and so that’s what he did, on the 11th March episode of Raw. Cena was unsuccessfully fending off Alberto Del Rio AND Brodus Clay in the ring. The Rock’s music hit to a massive pop but it was The Mock, bald wig and all, who appeared on the entrance ramp.

He came to the ring making it three on one and delivered a Rock Bottom, wisely avoiding The Least Convincing Move In Sports Entertainment. It’s a weird one this, because while the commentary team sell Miz’s clever “ruse”, Cena was already outnumbered and beaten down so there wasn’t any need to fool him. Plus the comedy dress up spot was tonally at odds with the vicious assault on the ramp that followed.

Still, in a physical performance that is all about the neck and shoulders, Miz is spot on as ‘The Brahma Bull’. ‘The A-Lister’ also got to try his hand at impersonating ‘The Leader of The Cenation’ ahead of their WrestleMania 33 mixed tag.
