10 Times WWE Wrestlers Portrayed Other Wrestlers
7. Hunico As Sin Cara
Generally, when WWE signs a new wrestler, be it a Japanese star, indie darling or whatever, they get sent to the Performance Centre to the learn the WWE way of doing things and find themselves lighting up episodes of NXT. The exceptions who leap straight to the main roster are few and far between.
Maybe WWE learned their lesson with Sin Cara. In 2011 they were so excited to secure the services of Mexican stand out Mistico that they gave him the full press conference treatment and rushed him to the main roster where glory was supposedly waiting.
Sadly, things didn’t pan out for “the new Rey Mysterio.” He struggled to adapt to the WWE style of working the left side of the body, instead of the right which is traditional in Mexico. He soon became best known for his botches, with special lighting for his matches doing little to mask his failings.
By 2013 he’d been replaced under the mask by Hunico. While this led to greater in ring consistency most casual fans wouldn’t have even noticed the switch.
It didn’t lead to a renewed push, Cara was largely been used as enhancement talent ever since and recently obtained his release from the company. Meanwhile, the Lucha House Party continue to prove that WWE have more talented lucha stars than they know what to do with.
All of which raises the question why WWE were so determined to persist with a character that had fallen so flat? Still, it could be argued that Hunico did a better job of playing Sin Cara than the original Sin Cara ever did.
