10 Times WWE's Attitude Era Got SERIOUSLY Weird

7. Terri Runnels' False Pregnancy

Wrestling has always had a lousy history when dealing with storyline pregnancies. A false pregnancy was the catalyst for Stephanie McMahon and Triple H splitting during the storyline for the main event of WrestleMania 18, and Mae Young's rubber hand exploits are explored elsewhere in this article. Even still, the 1998/99 Terri Runnels pregnancy angle remains the work of a maniac.

Terri Runnels was best known for being the perfect partner for Goldust, but after the two had separated Runnels made her moves on the womanizing newcomer Val Venis. She was obviously successful in her pursuit of WWE's resident porn star, with Runnels then claiming she was pregnant with Val's child in the aftermath of their affair.

This is where things go even further off the rails.

Venis gets even more over as a babyface by telling Runnels "we're not pregnant, YOU are pregnant" and denying parenthood anyway because of a prior vasectomy, resulting in Terri returning in her Marlena persona to try and seduce Goldust, cigar-and-all. It ends when D-Lo Brown accidentally bumps Runnels off of the ring apron, causing an apparent miscarriage, a brief indentured servitude angle due to D'Lo's guilt, before it's revealed to Brown weeks later that Runnels was never pregnant in the first place. The past really is sometimes a different planet.
