10 Times WWE's Smackdown Brand Got Shafted
3. No More Cruiserweight Belt (2007)
Smackdown was good for at least one thing: being a haven for Cruiserweights to fill out the undercard with enthralling bouts. Rey Mysterio, Tajiri, Matt Hardy, Gregory Helms, Paul London, Billy Kidman, and many others were just some of the performers that made the blue brand a better place with speedier, more high-flying theatrics.
For some reason in 2007, WWE decided to rid themselves of the weight-exclusive belt, putting it on Hornswoggle for a goof at Great American Bash, and then retiring the strap that September.
While future lightweights like CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, and Seth Rollins would be better off as main eventers instead of being shoehorned due to their lower weights, a vital part of Smackdown went away for no good reason.
