Fans who watched WWF programming religiously (yes, including Wrestling Challenge) or turned up early to see dark matches at events will remember the federation furniture that was Brooklyn Brawler. Played by Steve Lombardi, the gimmick was enhancement talent at best, but it actually has more depth than you might think.

For example, there might be a reason why Brawler always wore New York Yankees gear to the ring.

Given the name, he would've started scrapping on the streets in Brooklyn. From there, Brawler would've made his way north across the Brooklyn Bridge into Manhattan. Continuing his epic fight across New York, he might've then finally conquered the Bronx district. Baseball fans will know that's where the Yankees play their games.

Though this kayfabe street fighting journey is inarguably far-fetched, it's at least implied. Why would someone from Brooklyn, where the Dodgers originally played, be so willing to flaunt old rivals the Yankees on TV? Did Brawler want to rub his ownership of the NY streets in everyone's faces?
