The fact that Shawn Michaels' first ever WWE championship win isn't recognised feels like the answer to some obscure trivia question. Back on 30 October 1990, Michaels and Rockers partner Marty Jannetty beat The Hart Foundation on a taped special for NBC. During the match, the ropes broke and the foursome had to improvise.

Vince McMahon made the call not to air the match several days later.

Weirdly, The Rockers marched on to make several title defences on house shows after "winning" the belts from Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart. Those would become historic matches, but only because the WWF decided to put the straps back on The Foundation after seeing the footage taped for The Main Event.

The '2 Out Of 3 Falls' bout has since become legendary to fans, and it remains one of the biggest false dawns in company history. Shawn and Marty would never officially become WWF Tag Team Champions, which is incredible to think given their popularity.
