Throughout his WWE career, Chris Benoit's closest friend and most trusted confidant was Eddie Guerrero. The two men described themselves as brothers, and their time together on the road made them as close as they could be.

On November 13, 2005, Eddie Guerrero was found dead in a hotel room in Minneapolis, having suffered heart failure brought on by years of drug abuse. While the entire roster was devastated by the loss of Guerrero, nobody in the company took it as hard as Benoit, Rey Mysterio and Eddie's nephew, Chavo Guerrero.

At a tribute show for Guerrero held on the evening of his death, Benoit was bawling, lamenting the loss of his brother. Benoit would never get over losing his best friend, with many of his coworkers later remarking that he was never the same. In order to cope with his grief, Benoit began carrying a journal in which he would write letters addressed to Guerrero. The last one was written ten days before Benoit's death.

While it would be impossible to measure the full effect that Eddie Guerrero's death had on Chris Benoit, there's no question that it took a huge toll on him.
