10 Totally Embarrassing WWE On-Air Production Botches
3. The WrestleMania XXIV Pyro Disaster
WrestleMania XXIV almost ended in disaster.
A great night of in-ring action concluded with The Undertaker defeating Edge in one of his legendary streak's best bouts. It was The Deadman's second World Heavyweight Title victory, and the scene was set for an epic celebration, with WWE devising an elaborate pyro sequence to close the year's biggest show.
Everything seemed to be going to plan at first, but the fireworks went awry. Pyro shot off from every corner of the arena, and two cables had been set up to carry rockets down from the top of the stands and onto the stage. One of them snapped, and instead of flying towards the entrance, the sparks rained down upon the fans in the middle and lower decks.
45 people were injured, but miraculously, only three were sent to the hospital. While things could've obviously been a whole lot worse, that number is still three too many, and the incident stands as a stark example of the dangers of working with explosives.
Unsurprisingly, Network footage has been heavily edited to cut out all signs of the ominous pyrotechnic glow in the crowd.
