Mankind's shoddy emotional treatment from The Rock and his Corporation colleagues wasn't just confined to the November 1998 night of their grand deceit, nor even exclusive to the darkest times before the dawn when Mick Foley finally captured his first WWE Title a little over a month later.

After dominating 'The Great One' in their title switch and a December pay-per-view clash, Foley was all-but done with The Rock, save for a Royal Rumble 1999 match he simply couldn't win - 'I Quit'. Foley was many weird and wonderful things, but most definitely not somebody that would ever cave to pain, no matter how intense.

And it got very, very intense.

All-too-aware of the circumstances, The Rock instead cannily used prerecorded audio of Foley uttering the words in a prematch promo to win the match, rendering him beaten enough to realistically justify the replaying of the clip over the arena P.A. The steel chair-assisted finish infamously went way, way way too far. In destroying Mankind, Rock almost terminated their friendship after getting more than a little caught in the moment with far more than the planned five unprotected chair shots. That ugly moment strayed a long way from typically joyous pro wrestling skullduggery, with Foley's blood-soaked exit caught in all it's grisly glory on Barry Blaustein's seminal Beyond The Mat.
