In September, WWE returns to UK shores for its first "proper" pay-per-view since SummerSlam '92.

Between that iconic event and the upcoming Clash At The Castle, WWE presented various "UK-exclusive" PPVs in conjunction with Sky Sports. They were broadly terrible. Great for the young lads watching live, but they were barely canon and the wrestlers took the night off. The first was the best. Nobody took a night off at One Night Only in '97; the action was stellar with a remarkable lack of filler, given the woeful standards of the undercard during that era.

The night ended horrendously for the British fans however, because Shawn Michaels lobbied to change the finish of his match - after the British Bulldog had promised fans victory in honour of his dying sister - because he thought the return match would be super-heated/he didn't fancy doing a job. Furious fans littered the ring with rubbish. The WWF caught fire months later, so this didn't kill the territory, but it was a senseless (and unspeakably ugly) risk for a midcard title match.

Some are optimistic that WWE can emulate the sheer euphoric scale of Wembley Stadium at the Principality - but if Drew McIntyre loses to Roman Reigns in a planned main event, given lacklustre ticket sales, WWE's minimal presence on BT Sports and AEW scoring record ratings on ITV4, such a move might have more significant ramifications.
