10 Triple H Orchestrated Championship Screwjobs
6. Jacqueline – SmackDown, 30 March 2000
Triple H’s championship screwjobs weren't reserved exclusively for his own title pursuits, as was proved on the final SmackDown before WrestleMania 2000 when he helped his on-screen wife, Stephanie McMahon, capture the Women’s Championship.
Stephanie, a non-wrestler, had been placed into a match by her father, Vince, in a bid to teach her a lesson. And who better to teach that lesson than the toughest female on the roster in Jacqueline? Of course, Jacqueline was also the women’s champ at the time – so I’m sure you can see where this one’s headed.
Vince’s plan backfired spectacularly when Triple H had his DX buddies, X-Pac, Road Dogg and Tori, came to ringside. From there, 'The Game' distracted the referee, allowing X-Pac to trip Jacqueline before Tori snuck in to hit her with a DDT, from which Stephanie crawled into the cover for the win.
Everyone in the faction was in on it but Triple H was clearly pulling the strings, meaning he and his lady would head into ‘Mania as the men’s and women’s champions respectively.
