10 Triple H Orchestrated Championship Screwjobs
4. Seth Rollins (And Roman Reigns) – Raw, 29 August 2016
Triple H’s most recent championship screwjob was a two-for-the-price-of-one deal, as he robbed both Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins on the 29 August 2016 showing of Raw.
With the newly-created Universal Championship being vacated at SummerSlam, a fatal four-way elimination match took place eight days later to determine a new champion. Reigns, Rollins, Big Cass and Kevin Owens would compete for the vacant title, and though Owens would ultimately end the night as champion, it was Triple H who did all the legwork.
Emerging at ringside, the on-screen COO hit Reigns with a Pedigree before dragging Rollins into a cover to score the elimination. Then, with Triple H seemingly setting his sights on Owens, he literally turned on an unsuspecting Rollins, laid him out with another Pedigree and allowed the former to slither in for the cover.
What should have gone down as Owens’ night, instead only really served to remind us that Triple H was the top dog here, with the title bout becoming something of a footnote in his protracted feud with his old protégé Rollins.
