10 Truly Awful WWE Divas Storylines, Angles And Gimmicks
2. Terri Runnels' 'Miscarriage'
When fans talk about the Attitude Era, they tend to look at it through rose-tinted glasses. There were a lot of positives about the Attitude Era, obviously, but there were a lot of negatives, too. It wasn't perfect, and angles such as The Big Bossman hijacking the funeral of The Big Show's Dad and Sexual Chocolate Mark Henry attest to that. One of the worst episodes of the Attitude Era was Terri Runnels' fake miscarriage. Runnels was Val Venis' on-screen girlfriend in late 1998 but he dumped her when he found out she was pregnant (which somehow made him a face in the Attitude Era) and she formed an alliance with D'Lo Brown and Mark Henry. Following a tag team match between Venis/The Godfather and Henry/Brown in which Terri was knocked off of the ring apron, she claimed to have suffered a miscarriage. Then, two weeks later, it was revealed to be a lie: Terri hadn't been pregnant in the first place. Shocking. The whole thing was nonsensical and designed purely for shock TV purposes. Terri herself hated the angle and claimed it was her only regret from her WWE career. She fought tooth-and-nail with writer Vince Russo (surprise surprise) but Vince McMahon sided with Russo and she had to go through with it.
