Apparently reaching the bottom (pardon the pun) of the barrel, WWE decided to give Natalya the gimmick of uncontrollable flatulence. Starting in February 2012, Jim Neidhart's daughter would break wind during backstage segments and matches. This went on for a couple of months. Why WWE felt they had to give Natalya, one of the best Divas of the last decade, such a ridiculous gimmick is anyone's guess. Nobody can really say for certain just what members of WWE creative are thinking when they come up with these potentially career-killing gimmicks and angles. Natalya, to her credit, took it on the chin and decided to run with it and make it the best she could (which was an uphill battle if there ever was one). She told Slam Sports in 2014, some time after the gimmick had ended, that:
No matter what Im given, Im going to make it great. Im going to pass gas, maybe I had too many protein bars that morning. Im sorry, but as a Diva, Im going to eat a lot of protein, and if Im going to do that, then Im going to look like a rockstar doing that, dressed to the nines in vintage couture and Im going to make it gold.
Be careful what you wish for, Natalya. WWE creative are watching, waiting and ready to pounce.
