It's been touched upon a couple of times in this list that the Diaz brothers aren't exactly wired the same way as the average joe. Nate likes to throw things. Nick on the other hand, doesn't take a loss very well.

That seems reasonable: Nick is a top fighter and top fighters need a high level level of ambition and determination. That makes defeat an uncomfortable stumbling block that must be overcome.

Nick found himself on the losing side at UFC 57 in his fight with Joe Riggs and was understandably upset. Without having time to process the defeat, he was sent to a Las Vegas hospital to be checked out - and so was Riggs.

Diaz had talked trash throughout the fight and had not made a pal in Riggs by the time the final bell rang. Catching sight of each other in the facility, the two would pick up where they left off in the ring and the unofficial fourth round of the fight took place.

The pair would recount the hospital fight on MMAWeekly’s SoundOff Radio a few days later, so the rivalry didn’t run too deep. Let that take nothing away from the perculiar nature of what took place in Vegas that night.
