10 UGLIEST Wrestling Championships Ever
4. NJPW World Television Championship
Between its Big Gold-esque Heavyweight title, its elegant white-strapped Intercontinental title, and its almost-bronze United States Heavyweight title, New Japan Pro-Wrestling was once considered the market leader in crafting visually-striking wrestling championships. The 2022-created World Television title stripped the Japanese kingpin of such a moniker, however. Becoming the twelfth(!) active championship in the company saw pessimistic undertones immediately descend on the strap, being branded a "giant TV", a "big movie ticket", and a "golden ticket" from the minute it was first displayed - but its repelling look justified such derogatory commentary.
With a sickly brown chosen as the primary colour for the title's strap, a monstrous golden square is the crude belt's leading takeaway, handing the title its connotations of literally being a Television title. You wouldn't know it was a Television title mind, given that nowhere on the title does it say as much! NJPW World and YouTube logos are plastered on the strap's body instead.
Between the trots that is the World Television title and the augmented IWGP World Heavyweight title, both of which now stand as the Ugly Stepsisters to NJPW's otherwise-tattered-yet-minted belts, the company's title designs have taken a turn for the worse in recent years. When the World Television title, too, becomes a dilapidated, beaten version of itself, perhaps it will encapsulate the beloved battered nature of a typical New Japan championship. Until then? Ew.
