Revealed during an interview on Edge & Christian's podcast, the former Tye Dillinger and current AEW star Shawn Spears revealed that he once competed for the WWE Championship under his new/old name in the pouring rain as thousands of theme park attendees looked on.

Taking place as part of an "OVW Six Flags Summer Sizzler Series", Spears got the nod to face 'The Champ' on a card that also featured Jerry Lawler, Beth Phoenix and others somewhere between the developmental league and the main roster.

It had been fairly common practice for WWE to send stars along to boost ticket sales if required, but title defences were less common. As Spears recalled during the interview too, the conditions were less than ideal for what they'd eventually pull off.

He said; “That could have gone bad. ’cause it started pouring the day of. It was a torrential downpour. There were eight matches on the card, they cut it. And me and John were going third. I didn’t see him most of the day. There were probably two to four thousand people there that were waiting all day, just soaked. And yeah, he comes in and he’s got an army Hummer, and he’s got marines with him, and it’s just...it was a very cool thing to see, but I just remember going, 'if the ring gets wet, even if it’s sweat or someone spills water, it’s so dangerous. And I just remember thinking like, ‘even if this guy rolls his own ankle, I’m done. That’s it.’ But it was challenging, and it worked out.
