10 Unbelievable Wrestling Fan Theories

4. Vince McMahon Sent Vince Russo To WCW As A Double Agent

By September 1999, the WWF was killing WCW in the ratings war.

On the 27th - the last RAW before Vince Russo's departure - RAW posted a 6.8 to nuke Nitro's 3.0. There was no WCW left to kill. This further ruins what is already an incredibly fanciful - and hilarious - wrestling conspiracy: Vince McMahon dispatched Vince Russo to WCW as a double agent with a mission to destroy it from within.

The idea that Vince McMahon deemed Russo sufficiently inept to execute such a plan, like a Noo Yawk Manchurian Candidate, is really funny - but also nonsensical. Russo had led the WWF to its highest-ever (cable) ratings. Or, if that wasn't the premise, Vince must have mapped out WCW's creative and relayed the instructions to Russo. This was equally sh*t-brained. SmackDown had just premiered; Vince wasn't capable of writing 12 hours of TV.

In truth, Russo's WCW creative wasn't too dissimilar to that with which he had reversed the WWF's fortunes; there simply weren't the legit genius wrestling minds, like Pat Patterson and Jim Cornette, in WCW to ground the excesses of his style. Nor was there Vince filtering the bullsh*t.
