Ross has had to put up with a lot of crappy treatment from WWE over the years. WWE especially seemed to take great pleasure in embarrassing JR on TV, especially if they were in Ross' beloved Oklahoma. He was placed in another embarrassing situation when he chaired the WWE 2K14 roster announcement during the SummerSlam weekend in 2013. Ross was joined on stage by Daniel Bryan, Steve Austin, Paul Heyman, Dolph Ziggler, Mick Foley, Rey Mysterio and a noticeably drunk Ric Flair. 'The Nature Boy' was intent on stealing the show and his behaviour became increasingly erratic. Ross failed to reign Flair in, causing Paul Heyman to at one point tear up Ross' script. WWE officials were furious and felt that Ross failed as host and had offended their sponsors. Ross 'retired' from WWE but most saw this as a face-saving exercise from him and WWE. It was unfair to let Ross go over this. While he didn't do a lot to control Flair, he's not a babysitter and he hardly encouraged the former 16 time World Champion.
