10 Under-Appreciated WWE September PPV Matches

6. Curtis Axel Vs. Kofi Kingston (Night Of Champions 2013)

It's hard to imagine that Curtis Axel was once given a significant push, to the point of being paired with Paul Heyman, but it happened. While he would ultimately become cannon fodder, Axel did show flashes of greatness in 2013, as evidenced by his Intercontinental title defense against Kofi Kingston at Night of Champions.

This match isn't a particular standout, as it was literally thrown together at the start of the show by Triple H, but even for being a random curtain-jerker, it showcases a lot of things that go underappreciated in WWE. For one thing, the crowd were instantly hot for it, meaning that Axel and Kofi didn't have to pull particularly heavy duty to get them to care, which is something too many competitors have to do.

Speaking of Kofi and Axel, they too are unjustly overlooked as singles competitors as this match showed. Sure, neither are the most dynamic personalities, and nobody would mistake Curtis for his Perfect dad, but the way these two were able to take what they were given and deliver a heated match shows that they were a lot better as singles guys than WWE would want you to think. Kofi especially deserves credit for his exciting blend of acrobatics and sense of the crowd.

Again, not a blowaway match, but since we're talking about an overlooked month, it's important to shine a light on the overlooked wrestlers as well.
