The first TakeOver: Toronto event was supposed to see WWE Hall of Famer, Trish Stratus, battle the undefeated Asuka for the NXT Women's Championship. Sadly, this didn't happen, because Trish became pregnant.

Anyway, Triple H and Ryan Ward must have recently watched WrestleMania 22, as they thought "if we can't get Trish, maybe we can get one of her biggest rivals". So the call was made to Mickie James - a legend of WWE and the independent circuit - and, come TakeOver, it was Asuka vs James for the belt.

James had been gone from WWE for six years before this match, so fans were ecstatic to see her again. They were even more thrilled when she proved to everyone that she could still go inside the squared-circle.

Of course, this came as no surprise to anyone who'd followed James' career outside of WWE, but it was still nice to see Mickie working for the biggest game in town against a calibre of opponent she could have only dreamed of in her first run.

Rather unsurprisingly, James did not win here, but put on a great showing that got her signed to the main roster full time.
