10 Underrated Wrestling Promos
5. Stone Cold - “You Treat Me Like A Dog And Expect Me To Smile?”
From 1996-1998, no one was better at promos than Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Austin was unlike anything anyone had ever heard in wrestling at the time - he was brash, he was vulgar, he was bitter... but even as a heel, he resonated with fans who saw themselves in him. Everyone wanted to be this beer-swilling, anti-authority bada** in the mid-'90s. And it was promos like this one, this one, and this underappreciated one from a pre-WrestleMania 13 edition of Monday night RAW that proved why he was wrestling's best talker.
The crux of his harangue was that nobody in wrestling could make him submit, no matter how consummate their in-ring abilities were. The highlight of it, however, was his trademark bitterness, as he opens his tirade talking about how he's been overlooked in favor of Shawn Michaels and how he's been screwed far more than Bret Hart claims to have been.
The final line in the promo sums up everything that every unwillingly-subservient corporate stooge has ever wanted to say to their employer - "you treat me like a dog and expect me to smile? You remind me of a jacka**!"
No surprise he ended up becoming the WWF's biggest babyface.
