10 Underrated WWE Survivor Series Matches You Must Watch
5. Stone Cold Steve Austin vs Bret Hart (Survivor Series 1996)
1996 belonged to one man: Stone Cold Steve Austin. Completely reinventing himself and adopting a badass, take-no-prisoners character and style Austin caught fire. He was well on his way to becoming the hottest thing in the business. Austin could also go in the ring as he proved in this strangely overlooked match with The Hitman at the 1996 Survivor Series. This was Bret's return match from an eight month hiatus while he filmed roles for television series like the western anthology Lonesome Dove. In the interim Austin climbed the ranks and continually taunted Bret, goading him into a match. The match had added importance as it would determine the number one contender for the WWF championship. Hart and Austin built the match up expertly using sound mat wrestling, intense brawling and big moves. Hart even kicked out of the Stone Cold stunner to Austin's utter disbelief. Hart won the match, reversing Austin's cobra clutch by climbing the turnbuckles and falling backwards in an homage to his match with Roddy Piper at Wrestlemania 8. This match has been overshadowed by their classic submission match at Wrestlemania 13 but it is a fantastic match in its own right and needs to be watched.
