10 Unforgettable Wrestling Moments That Gave You Goosebumps
6. Austin Helps Save Team WWF From The Alliance
Stone Cold Steve Austin shocked the world when, at the culmination of 2001's, Invasion PPV, he proceeded to stab his teammates in the back by delivering a Stone Cold Stunner to his own teammate Kurt Angle, draping the prone Booker T over him for the win, ensuring victory for The Alliance and turning heel.
Austin's heel turn would prove to be poorly-received by fans and pundits alike, and so it was on this particular episode of Monday Night Raw (prior to Invasion), that Austin, after weeks of pleading by Mr. McMahon of all people for, "The old Stone Cold" to come back.
McMahon knew Austin, his greatest arch-rival, was the only power strong enough to sway the tide in Team WWF's favor, and on 16 July 2001, the raucous crowd in attendance was privy to one of most chaotic house-clearings in history.
As glass shattered through the speakers, "The Old" Stone Cold made his way down to ring, and proceeded to show the audience just exactly why they call him the rattlesnake, as he came to the aid of an outnumbered and beaten down Team WWF, and as J.R. shouts, "...HE'S STRIKING ANYTHING THAT BY-GOD MOVES!"
As Kane and the Undertaker his stereo choke-slams on Billy Kidman and Chris Kanyon respectively, Austin's music plays the episode out as Team WWF cleans house.
